Questions people actually ask
Short answers. Click the chat if you have a question that isn't here.
Is Amie a lawyer?
+
No. Amie is an AI divorce coach and document-preparation service. She'll explain the California divorce process in detail and help you fill out forms, but she does not give legal advice. For specific legal advice about your case, you need an attorney — and Amie can introduce you to one.
Can Amie help with a contested divorce?
+
Not directly. Amie works best for uncontested divorces — where both spouses agree on everything (kids, support, property). If your case is contested or complex, Amie will recommend an attorney from our partner network and stay in the loop to help with paperwork.
What if my spouse won't respond?
+
California allows a 'default' divorce. If your spouse doesn't file a Response within 30 days of being served, you can finalize the divorce without their participation. Amie walks you through the default process.
How long does this take?
+
California has a mandatory 6-month waiting period from the date your spouse is served. There is no way to speed this up — it's state law. The actual paperwork and filing? About 15 minutes of your time with Amie, plus a trip to the clerk.
How is Amie different from a paralegal service?
+
Most paralegal services give you a fillable form and leave the rest to you. Amie talks. She explains why each form matters, catches mistakes that get cases bounced, and is available 24/7 for the questions you didn't think to ask before sitting down.
Is this only for California?
+
Yes. Family law is state-specific and Amie is trained on California Family Code. If you're filing in another state, we'd be misleading you to take your money.
What languages does Amie speak?
+
English and Spanish, fluently. Habla con ella en el idioma que prefieras.
Is my chat with Amie private?
+
Your conversation is encrypted and stored only to provide the service. It is not protected by attorney-client privilege (we are not a law firm). We never sell your data and we don't share it with third parties beyond what's required to deliver the service.
